A daily meeting that is too short may not allow enough time for your team to fully discuss important features and tasks related to the product, which can ultimately lead to issues with the sprint. Therefore, it is important to maximize the efficiency of your daily meetings in order to ensure the success of your sprint. One key factor in creating an efficient Daily Scrum is maintaining high energy levels. Here are a few tips to help you galvanize your team and boost the effectiveness of your daily meetings:
It is important to start your Daily Scrum at the exact same time each day, neither a minute earlier nor later.
To make the most of your Daily Scrum, it is recommended to timebox it to a period of 15 minutes. Set up a large timer that is visible to everyone and keep a close eye on the clock to ensure that you stay within the allotted time.
Before each Daily Scrum, take 5 minutes to prepare:• Look at the Done column to remind yourself of the features that have been completed• Prioritize tasks in the Sprint Backlog column according to the Sprint Goal before tagging yourself on the cards that you commit to completing during the day.• If you encountered any difficulties, try and summarize them in one clear sentence.
Developers take turns answering the following three questions during the Daily Scrum:
Answer this question with the user stories that have been completed and are in the done column.
Anything that is not yet done requires additional work.
Ensure that at least one team member is focused on completing the sprint goal.
If the answer is yes, the speaker should summarize the difficulty in one sentence and indicate that they have entered the issue into the Problem Solving Table.
As a speaker:
• Stick to the facts
• Avoid digressions and justifications
• Avoid using technical vocabulary
As a listener:
• Do not interrupt the speaker
Use the last 5 minutes of your Daily Scrum to solve any problems that have been identified.• Distribute problems between team members in advance of the Daily Scrum so that they can prepare potential solutions and speed up this part of the meeting.• If you reach the end of the 15-minute timebox without finding a solution for each problem, ensure that one team member commits to finding a solution before the next Daily Scrum.
At the end of the Daily Scrum, have one team member commit to writing and sending the Daily Mail. Make sure that this team member does not work on anything else until the Daily Mail is completed. Your Product Owner expects the Daily Mail at the same time every day, so make sure that you deliver it on time. This helps to demonstrate the reliability of the team and helps to build trust.I hope that these tips help you to boost the efficiency of your Daily Scrums and ensure that they are as productive as possible.
